February Intermediate/Advanced classes at the Aerial Playground continue on Wednesdays through February 22nd, 6:30-7:30pm. $30 drop-in, RSVP required.

On February 23rd, I will be teaching a silks workshop in Gilroy at Ultimate Pole. Details here.

Along with Julia and Sydney, we will be taking our cube act to the Moisture Festival in Seattle, April 6-8. I will also be performing my rope act. If you're in the area please come! It's going to be a killer act!

March 1-4 I will be in Costa Rica at the Envision Festival. I will be teaching a beginning aerial workshop as well as performing a killer Tron-inspired rope act with Emily and presenting a collaborating with my amazing partner Logan.

* Please note that this class is only 1 HOUR.

Students are encouraged to arrive 10-15 minutes early

In this class students will continue to review and refine their aerial

vocabulary while building strength and stamina in the air.

We will clarify our technique and begin to think about

what adds to the quality of a performance.

All levels are welcome.

Intermediate/Advanced Rope
Wednesdays 6:00-7:30pm
January 4th, 11th, 18th, and 25th
Drop in $35
4 week series $120 ($30 per class)

This class will break down the mechanics of more advanced climbs

and drops and focus on efficient sequencing. There will also be an emphasis

on conditioning for strength and endurance and exploring creative

transitions. Students will be encouraged to acknowledge and utilize their

individual strengths as unique movement aesthetics evolve.

This class is fast paced and offers a ton of information.

Students must be able to invert from the air (repeatedly!)

Advanced Registration is encouraged.

I am currently in St. Paul, Minnesota, teaching with Circus Juventas. They have an amazing facility and fantastically strong students! Very inspiring!

Yesterday I managed to connect with Moksha Yoga in Minneapolis - hot yoga that is eco oriented and with a beautiful philosophy. I first discovered Moksha Yoga while I was visiting Montreal and there are a handful of studios scattered throughout Canada and the US. Highly recommended.

June wrapped up with performing a rope duo at The Opulent Temple

Rights of Massive party on Treasure Island with Sarah.

Spent the 4th of July weekend at Filth of July in Laytonville

partaking in all sorts of sexy nonsense, eating lots of bacon

being blasted by dubstep and loving America. Go team go.

Back in Santa Cruz, Julia, Sydney and I put in some serious

cube rehearsal time in preparation for the Poletential Air Show.

Total success.

Next up, Julia and I performed our duo rope act at Lush,

an event at the SupperClub in San Francisco. Such a swanky

venue and it was totally rad performing with Vibrant EYEris.

A rockstar night all around.

I am currently finishing teaching a weeklong summer

intensive in Santa Barbara at La Petite Chouette.

I have been in Santa Cruz.

Currently, I'm working on a duo pole act with my pal Julia.

Neither of us have had formal training on pole but we've managed

to create some neat stuff.

I have also had the great opportunity this past month to collaborate

and create with some of my favorite people who also happen to be

the cast of Habitat. My good friend Kevin OConnor is currently

pursuing his MFA at UCDavis and as part of the Edge Festival this

April we are presenting this work-in-progress. For anyone who

caught Dark Matter: An exploration with 8 bodies and 8 ropes

in Santa Cruz last June, Habitat is version 2.0 with 6 people/6 ropes

and promises to be new and exciting. More details soon!

Back in California

My final days in Europe were concluded in Sweden at the
Circus Ring of Friendship International Youth Festival in Norrköpings
and a wonderful weekend in Stockholm.

Let me tell you, it was a hoot.
What started as a lovely, sleep-deprived misadventure was
ultimately a wonderful experience with many new friends.

staying with Mira and her lovely family
perfecting the phrase, "två öl, tack"

So now I am back in the Bay Area and I have managed to keep busy,
despite missing Bristol and Stockholm terribly.

I taught a workshop at Poletential and helped out with the USPDF Pole
Dancing Competition theyhosted in Redwood City. The workshops
went great - they have a lovely space and all of the students
were really strong. I am excited to start teaching there regularly when I am in town.

The following week I subbed a class at the San Francisco

Circus Center which went well and was a nice excuse to get me out
into the big city and see dear, long-lost friend Anjuli in Sausalito.

In the interim, I have been keeping Lulu's in business, flirting
(with the help of Youtube) with Chinese Pole, and waving the rally
flag for 7am training which I can't decide is hardcore or incredibly
silly. The Campaign of Fitness is back in full swing -
complemented, of course, by lots of kale,
accountability and shame.

In Santa Cruz we are gearing up for a holiday show.
I will be performing rope, a very creatively rigged Chinese Pole,
and a duo with Louise on cube (a medieval torture device
cleverly disguised as an aerial apparatus).The music will
be great. I am making sure of it.

It is rumored that Dark Matter may return in the Spring,
and I have big schemes simmering for January.
Very, very exciting.

Finally, two retardedly beautiful dance films that I

CIRCA Festival_Auch,France

The final weeks of this trip were completely mental.

The logistics of matching train, bus, and plane timetables, sorting

tech times, and dealing with luggage (including a 6 meter rubber

radiator hose for my Chinese Pole mission) had me thoroughly

overwhelmed for a minute. As it turned out, all that was needed

was the creation of a color-coded spreadsheet to calm me down.

Spent the night in the futuristic airport Yotel and was off to Toulouse!

I spent a few days in Auch, France at the CIRCA Festival where all cafe conversations were a mix of French, Spanish, Swedish, and English and the boys all wore stripes.

My students from the Die Etage school in Berlin performed and they were wonderful. It was really great to see them in action and they're coming up with some really innovative movements. On Tuesday I performed on the scène ouverte which was a nice opportunity. I saw CirkVost's Epicycle - a bass heavy, glitchy and industrial production that looks transplanted out of Black Rock City. Also saw Pffff! by Akoreacro which was super fun.

I've been in Bristol and have kept myself busy. I managed to put
together a fun mini-montage of footage I had from CarnyVille.
Hopefully it captures the madness of the event.

Training sessions made possible by caffeine and
biscuits. Post session cake is essential.

Justine and I escaped the training space for a day to have a lovely

brunch at the city farm cafe and then enjoy the treats at Apple Day.

Apple Juice. Apple Cake. Toffee Apples.. so amazing.

On Thursday I went with Tarn to Cardiff to check out the new

No Fit State training space. Really neat - met up with Lyn and
had a good play.

Justine and I successfully rigged the Chinese Pole on Friday -
totally hilarious. Very excited to train more pole.

Last night I performed at the Compass of Lunacy event.

The venue was the Old Coroners Building and there was some
really interesting/disturbing art installations... and the drains in the
cement floor were just creepy. Tara, Alice, Sven, Ana, Nina
and all of the other performers were a joy to work with.
A good night.

CarnyVille and Nordisk SirkusFestival

Arrived in Bristol and immediately began sorting out rigging

and tech for CarnyVille.It's put on by the Invisible Circus and is

an epic production. A few retroCam pictures and

video will hopefully capture the madness.

And then the next morning - Norway!

Trondheim was beautiful and I met so many wonderful and

talented artists from Norway, Sweden, Finland, and Italy.

Ended up back in Bristol for another week and had the opportunity to train with some really amazing people. Epic Jedi rope jams and mad innovation. On Friday we dressed up ridiculously and went to see Justine perform at the Invisible Circus production of Swing Thing - so great to see her in action.

Over the weekend we also went and checked out the Bristol Harbour Festival. It was a beautiful day and there was loads of free dance, music, and circus happening around Bristol. We managed to catch a stunning hand balancing act performed by Reuben DotDotDot, and both Nicole Pearson and Steven Allen had totally solid rope acts.

After an all-nighter in Berlin with Katha and Daniel and Sarah at Cake Bar in Berlin, I survived a day of transit and arrived in Barcelona on the 17th of July. I was met at the airport by Emiliano and we had a glorious introduction and circus geek-out over coffee. Emi sent me off on the bus to Huesca where 4 hours later I was met by Gabi and Pke. Soon after we arrived in Jaca and checked out their training space at the Rocodromo.

The following day Pke and I made it out to a music festival.

I think the band was from Peru - real nice.

On Tuesday we went camping at Rodellar Caves -- a huge center for rock climbing. We managed to rig some pretty awesome spots. The first was over a small swimming hole and then at the epic Delfin arch.

Gabi and I trained a bit in one of the caves and started creating a really nice duo.Right after we unrigged a storm broke with hail the size of marbles and we had to hike back to the car in the rain. Pretty hilarious.

Back in Jaca we had some killer tapas and worked more on our duo. It's coming along really nice and we're excited to continue working together this fall in Montreal.

One week in Spain was not definitely not enough.

Sunday:

Arrived and got sorted at the flat I'm staying at in Neukölln.

It was absurdly hot but that didn't stop me from heading straight to

Meyman to devour the most delicious falafel wrap ever.

Tastes like Christmas and for 2.50 euro it's a big win.

I also saw part of the Die Etage student circus show at Shake!

First thing I noticed when I got to the room I'm staying at.

A good sign.

Monday:

Met up with Katha at the Katakomben to train a bit of rope.

Had to climb a god-awful ladder that defied the laws of physics.

Tuesday:

More training in the morning, followed by a vegan burger
at the corner bio frisch & lecker cafe.

Wandered around a bit, poked around in some second-hand stores

stopped at Cupcake Berlin. Had a funny experience when I took

my cupcake to the park when a very chunky very blond German baby

came up to me and was definitely giving me the hungry eye.

I was not willing to share. Awkward.

Later I met with Katha again and we had beers at this really neat

spot that used to be the State Circus School in Berlin

before the wall came down. Now it's just empty and is filled with

graffiti and art galleries. Smells a bit like piss but still really neat.

After that we went and saw Versus at the Chamäleon.

The show was set to Muse and Antony and the Johnsons
with an emo-licious tagline of:
Es ist verrückt zu glauben, dass Liebe wirklich ist.

Totally KO'd some comp tickets so the evening was a raging success.

Wednesday:

By now I have a routine. The nice man at Cafe Ritter

knows that every morning I like my cappuccino with soya.

Morning Routine. These little cookies are the highlight of my day.

I have most of the day off until the evening, so I splurge and

check out a vegan cafe called Cafe Vux.

Pretty legit.

Later that afternoon I went to Die Etage

to speak with the students there and introduce
them to the magical wonder and elusive power of the C-Star.

Then I went with a few of the advanced rope students

for dinner, icecream, and to watch the Sunlight Zone.

They were very very excited.

Thursday:

Partnering day!

We trained in the afternoon and then I went and saw

"Made in Berlin" at the Wintergarten.

Lots of man-candy. Very nice.

Friday:

Rope in the morning.

Cupcake in the afternoon. Another wrap for dinner.

When I quit circus I'm opening a cupcake shop.

Bristol was lovely. Highlights include:

The edible garden I stumbled upon in Queen's Park,
and getting to see The Doors documentary When You're Strange.
So good.

Training with Tanya Scully at The Island Artspace
and at the Albany Centre.

We also had an amazing skill share and music exchange,
and had my first ever Chinese Pole class. So great.

Playing at Circomedia's Cafe and Circus at St. Paul's Church.
Really beautiful space. Bliss!

Workshops in Midvale went so well. Everyone was so strong and we had a lot of fun. Becca taught us some pretty epic pole moves, and we had a fun lab translating some of their pole transitions to rope. More on that soon.

Last night we took a totally rad moonlight hike to some hot springs. Drank wine and mellowed out.

Koh Phangan -- Christmas, Half-Moon party and New Years

After India I headed to Koh Phangan and met up with some cool kids -- On Christmas Eve we went to the Half Moon Party at Haad Riin which was out of control. Buckets of redbull and whiskey, fireworks, and a foam party on the beach. Out of control. After that we went to a rave in the jungle which was entertaining. Lots of drunk people being totally obnoxious. If I hadn't been with cool people I would have hated it but it was a funny thing to see.

Then I escaped Haad Riin and went to Haad Yien -- a chilled out hippie beach. It was beautiful and I was able to do lots of yoga. Pretty great. I opted out of the New Years Full Moon Party ruckus and had a mellow time with friends instead. A nice way to start 2010. I definitely wasn't jealous of everyone who was hungover and bandaged from various accidents from the nights' festivities. Buckets of booze + scooters + fire = disaster.

I made my way back to Bangkok where I continued to do lots yoga and explored the city. I became an expert at the Skytrain and took advantage of the amazing free samples at the Paragon Mall's Gourmet Market. I went to the massive weekend market and wandered aimlessly around MBK. FACT: Taking a Bikram class in Thai has got to be the funniest thing ever. It's so pleasant/hilarious to listen to.

I was about to come home but at the last minute decided to stay and do the artist exchange at Club Med in Phuket. Madness!

India was great. Lovely people and unbeatable food. Wicked traffic. Amazing chai. Pole Mallakhamb is the most terrifying thing I've ever done and the skinny rope is vicious. My toes hurt. More soon.

Our day: Wake up. Consume tropical fruit smoothie. Take a longtail boat to the Emerald Cave, swim through crazy spooky cave into the center of an island to a secret beach with waterproof bag containing ipod and speakers and lots of snacks. Set up camp. Climb vines. Do barrel turns and handstands.

Basically be rockstars.

Michael and Emily and I went to Koh Mook before we headed to India for Mallakhamb. It was fantastic.

Bangkok, Railay, and Koh Lanta

Met up with Ana and Fabio in Bangkok last week -- I took them to experience the sheer madness of the weekend market and the sensory overload of Khao San Road. We rode a lot of tuk tuks.

We took a bus to to Krabi and stayed in bungalows in Railay. Limestone is epic.

We stayed at these cute bungalows in the valley between Railay and Ton Sai Bay and we found an amazing tree to rig from in the jungle. I made friends with a pair of Thai guys who helped me rig and who were very entertained watching us mess around on the rope/battle the flocks of mosquitos. I wish someone had caught on film the conversation I had in Thai trying to explain what the heck we were trying to do. Hilarious.

The next day Ana and I convinced the guys at one of the climbing schools to lend us some of their climbing rope so we could rig on the beach. We made complete fools of ourselves trying to throw the rope over the branch until this German guy walked over and was like "Excuse me. I do this for a living" and totally came to our rescue. I don't hate it.

We eventually made our way to Koh Lanta and it is a great place. We've been staying at the uber cute and funky BeeBee's Bungalows and it's so mellow. We went snorkeling at Koh Rok (beautiful) and rented motorbikes to explore the island yesterday (terrifying). Yesterday we met up with Emily and her partner Michael and two of their friends from Bangkok. My workshop in Bangkok didn't get enough enrollment so it's not happening next week. Ana and Fabio left to head back to Bangkok because she is going to teach some Axis before they head back to California. I'm going to stay in Lanta for a few more days, and then maybe go back to Railay with Emily to do some more climbing. On Sunday we head to India.
